Flexible working rights to be extended
Proposals have been announced by the government to open up the right to request flexible working to parents of children under the age of 18.
The right to request flexible working is currently available to parents of children aged 17 and under and disabled children under 18. The
new proposals are expected to benefit approximately 288,000 people and are due to come into force with effect from April 2011.
The government has also confirmed that a consultation will be launched later in the year to explore the possibility of extending the right
to request flexible working to all employees. We will bring you further details about these developments when they are released.
