Extension of right to request time off for training put on hold
The right to request time off for training was introduced in April 2010 for those employees working in organisations employing 250 or more employees. The right works in a similar way to the right to request flexible working in that once an employee has made a request for time off to train the employer is then under a duty to consider this request.
The right was due to be extended to medium and small sized organisations from April this year, however, the Government have now announced that this will be delayed to allow for further consultation on the issue. This consultation will presumably focus on the extent of the financial burden that the right will put on smaller employers.
We will update you as to any further developments as and when they are announced.
